My big fat Greek Athens

Yasoo! We are into day 2 and are loving this crazy, fast, polluted, historic city of Athens. It's just as I remember it, only a little more up market these days after the Olympic make over. We have done a few shopping and feasting dashes into the Plaka - and are about to again this evening. Last night we enjoyed dinner for two while a waitress kindly took care of our daughter so we could eat in peace. We nervously tried to relax, scoffing down calamari, gyros and a Greek salad while keeping a watchful eye on Cassie (must admit I had a Maddeleine McCann moment when the waitress scooped Cassie into her arms with a reassuring wave). Once, she went from view so Manny dashed from the table to find her, only to have a waiter tell us they'd sold her! But no, she was sipping orange cool drink from a can and having the time of her life without us. This, as I remember now, is the Greek way. Children are the centre of the universe and they love and adore them. Cars stop for us on busy streets with Cassie in the stroller, people step off footpaths and make way for us - it seems the entire race takes on a much more polite and friendly face as long as you have a babe in arms.
Anyway, we are about to set off for the Plaka one last time for shopping and something to eat, before we head off to Porto Heli tomorrow on Flying Cat.
Thanks Meg and Dessie for the posts. Meg, Cassie keeps pointing out girls with dark hair and saying Me so she is missing you and Sarah, as we are.
Hope to upload some pics soon
love to all
